Get more done in Google Drive.
FileDrop adds practical tools for organizing, checking, extracting, and collecting files—right in the Google Drive side panel.
SELECTED FOLDER

FileDrop shows the actions that fit your selection.
- Rename files
- Build a file report
- Find duplicates
- Review sharing access
- Extract text with OCR
Large jobs continue in the background. Return to Recent activity when you are ready.
Start with what you already have open.
Choose a file or folder in Drive. FileDrop brings the useful actions to that selection, without making you rebuild your workflow somewhere else.
01
Select
Pick one or more files, or choose a single folder.
02
Choose
Open FileDrop and choose the tool that matches the selection.
03
Review
Check destinations, rename rules, formats, or report options.
04
Run
Start the task, close the panel, and check Recent activity later.
A practical toolkit for everyday Drive work.
Use the pieces you need today. The panel changes with your selection, so the relevant tools stay close and the rest stay out of the way.
01
Organize
Copy a folder into another Drive folder, recreate a subfolder structure, or rename files in batches with a preview before the change.
02
Inspect
Create a file report with paths, links, dates, types, sizes, and owners—or create a sharing report to see who can access each item.
03
Clean up
Scan a folder and its subfolders for matching names, sizes, and types. FileDrop creates a review sheet; it does not delete or move anything.
04
Extract
Run OCR on PDF, JPG, and PNG files, then save the text to Google Sheets or Google Docs in the output format you choose.
05
Collect
Create an upload request that lets people send files without a Google or FileDrop account, with file-type, quantity, and size controls.
Check first. Change only what you choose.
Duplicate and sharing reports are read-only. A duplicate scan never deletes files, and a sharing report never changes permissions. Rename and folder-creation actions run only after you review their settings.
- Preview rename rules before applying them
- Review duplicate links in a Google Sheet
- See missing permissions before a background job starts
- Retry failed tasks from Recent activity
Questions before you add it?
Need the complete reference? Visit FileDrop Help.
Do I need to leave Google Drive?
No. Open FileDrop from the Google Drive side panel, choose a file or folder, and run the tool from there.
Does FileDrop work with both files and folders?
Yes. File tools appear when you select one or more files. Folder tools appear when you select one folder. You can also paste a Drive folder link into FileDrop.
Are subfolders included?
It depends on the task. File reports, sharing reports, and duplicate scans can include subfolders. OCR, bulk rename, and a normal folder copy work on files directly inside the selected folder. Folder-structure mode recreates subfolders without copying their files.
Can I undo a bulk rename?
Not in one step. Use the preview before renaming and start with a smaller selection when you are testing a rule.
What happens during a long task?
OCR, reports, large renames, duplicate scans, folder work, and exports run in the background. You can close the panel and return to Recent activity to open the result, retry a failure, or clear a finished item.
Which plans include the Drive tools?
Upload requests are available on Free within account limits. Drive folder tools are available on Pro, Business, or Teams. OCR is available on Business or Teams. The panel shows the access attached to your account.
