How to create a file request in Dropbox
Dropbox file requests let anyone upload files into a folder in your Dropbox, even if they don’t have a Dropbox account. To create one on dropbox.com:
- Click File requests in the left sidebar, then New request.
- Add a title and, if you like, a description.
- Choose the folder where uploads should go. You can also set a naming convention for incoming files.
- Optionally add a deadline (paid Dropbox plans only) or a password.
- Click Create, then copy the link or send the request to people by email.
Where Dropbox file requests fall short
- No custom form fields. You can’t ask for a client ID, project name or any other details along with the files.
- Files only go to Dropbox. To log each submission in Google Sheets or Airtable, you need Zapier or Make.
- Uploads use your own storage. If your Dropbox runs out of space, uploaders get an error. Deadlines are also limited to paid plans.
