The new FileDrop Uploader is a faster, cleaner way to move files into your spreadsheet workflow. It keeps the core strengths of the standard uploader, but adds a more focused interface, easier browsing, better file handling, and tools that make it simpler to work with both Drive content and newly uploaded files.
As it is with our current uploader, the new one separates the experience into tabs for Upload, Library, Drive, and Settings. That makes the workflow easier to scan, faster to use, and better suited to repeated file-heavy work.
What’s New
Upload tab
The Upload tab is designed for quick file intake. You can drag and drop files, arrange them before inserting in the order you want uploaded, switch between preview and list modes, and keep the queue organized before sending anything to the sheet.

Library tab
The Library shows the most recently added files from Google Drive. It supports scrolling to load more items, so you can keep moving through recent files without constantly refreshing the view.

Drive tab
The Drive tab is built for browsing Drive folders and root files. You can open folders, move through nested structures, insert individual files, run OCR on supported files, or insert all visible files at once.

Settings tab
The Settings tab collects the controls people actually use most: folder settings, insert behavior, file handling, OCR preferences, sharing settings, and utility actions like embedding images or exporting data.

Better visual modes
The uploader supports both preview and list layouts, with preview as the default. That makes it easier to switch between a visual file scan and a denser list view depending on the task.
OCR and translation
When a file supports OCR, the uploader can extract text directly. The recognized text modal is larger and includes translation options, which makes it more useful when working with scans, images, or PDFs in different languages.
Infinite loading
Library and Drive now load additional items as you scroll. That means fewer interruptions, less manual paging, and a smoother experience when working with larger Drive collections.
Best Use Cases
Fast file insertion
Use the Upload tab when you already have files on your computer and want to place them into the sheet with the fewest steps possible.
Recent file review
Use the Library tab when you need the latest files that were added to Drive and want to reinsert something you already worked with.
Folder-based browsing
Use the Drive tab when your files are organized in folders and you need to navigate through a Drive hierarchy before inserting anything.
OCR from scans and PDFs
Use the OCR flow when you need text from screenshots, scanned documents, or PDF files. This is useful for extracting notes, invoice text, forms, or clipped content.
Team workflows
Use the uploader in shared spreadsheet workflows where different people add files, review items, and reuse the same Drive-based repository.
Why It Helps
The new uploader reduces friction in a few practical ways:
- It keeps the most common actions visible without making the interface feel crowded.
- It separates uploading, browsing, and settings so users do not have to hunt for unrelated controls.
- It improves Drive navigation so large file sets remain usable.
- It makes OCR easier to reach when the file type supports it.
- It gives people more control over how files are displayed and inserted.
