Have you ever wanted to select some cells in Google Sheets, save that selection as an image automatically, and share it with a colleague? Without having to use external tools, snipping tools, or other software and many many steps. Let me introduce you to a simple yet powerful addition to FileDrop’s set of tools: Save selected Google Sheets cells as PNG.
You can easily select a portion of your Google Sheet and save it directly as a PNG image file. It’s like taking a screenshot of the selected cells that is saved automatically in your Drive.
Now, why is this handy? Once you’ve saved your selection as a PNG, you can do all sorts of things with it. Send it via email, download it for offline use, open it, copy it, or share it with others seamlessly. The resulted PNG is saved in your Google Drive folder, and you can use it again anywhere you like.
How it works?
First, you must have FileDrop installed. Refresh your Google Sheet and start FileDrop from the Extensions menu.
Just select the cells you want to save as PNG and click the bottom menu button with the green image selection.
Or use the Extension menu, FileDrop> Click on “Save selection as PNG”.
It’ll take a moment to process, just a few seconds and a modal with the image and a few options will display.
The PNG file is now automatically saved in your FileDrop folder in Google Drive.
From here, the options are aplenty:
- Share the file via email
- Download the file to your computer
- Copy url from Drive and paste it in another document
- Open in a new window
But wait, there’s more! Feeling generous? Share it via email with a single click. Yup, it’s that easy. Just hit send, and off it goes. Check your inbox, and there it is—your PNG file, ready to be viewed and appreciated.
