We’re starting the new year with a bunch of updates we’ve added to FileDrop plus a few fixes. Videos with demos of how to use these features are coming soon.
Here are the features we released in the last month.
For using different advanced features of FileDrop we’ve added this button to our settings tab. Click this button and it will enable our advanced features to users both free and paid.
Extract Text Button
A more accesible way to do manul OCR text extraction on PDFs and images. Click on a file link and then click on the Extract Text icon in the footer bar to start the process.
The modal will open with the extracted text.
Here you can use different options:
- insert the extracted text in a cell
- copy text to clipboard
- download resulted text as txt, docx or Excel xlsx file
- translate text with our advanced translation engine Translate Pro
If you want to preview files you’ve added to Google Sheets you can easily do that with our preview tool. Just click a file url and then the preview icon in the footer bar.
The preview modal will open with different options based on the file you want to preview.
You can open Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, images and even videos or audio files. The player will be enabled automatically for video and audio files.
Open Save Folder link in Settings
Now you can open the folder where you save your files directly from FileDrop settings tab.

We have a new way to change the Save Folder where the files added via FileDrop are saved. The new setup uses the Google Picker which is more robust and friendly.
When you click the Change Folder icon or link the Google Picker modal will open and you can select the folder you want where to save the files.

Folder Tools: Copy Files From Sheet to One Folder
This feature we built for a client that had 11.000 files added to different sheets. The files were in different folders and the client wanted to select files in the Sheet and be able to copy the files in a single folder. We built this little feature in one day.
How it works is by selecting the files links in the sheet and then just past the id of the folder where you want them copied. Select checkbox and then the Start copying button.
The process might take a while to finish depending on the number of files.

Bug fixes
Ofcourse we worked on a few bugs and issues with the Drive tab, paid features that had intermitent issues and more. We are continusly try to make FileDrop better, do let us know if you notice something is not working properly.
