Extract EXIF Data from Photos Directly in Google Sheets

Dear fellow Google Sheets enthusiasts and photographers, today we released an EXIF data extractor, or metadata extractor, for your photos directly within your Google Sheets.

This nifty tool allows you to effortlessly extract valuable metadata from your images, streamlining your workflow and unlocking a wealth of insights.

Getting Started with the EXIF Extractor

To begin, ensure you have the FileDrop add-on installed and a folder in your Google Drive containing the photos you want to analyze.

The EXIF extractor is conveniently located within the Image Kit sidebar of FileDrop. Simply navigate to the sidebar, locate the “EXIF Extractor” option, and you’re ready to go. This tool is available for Pro and Business+ users.

First, you’ll need to list the images from your Google Drive folder in your spreadsheet using the List Images tool. This process requires the folder ID, which you can easily obtain and paste into the designated field. The List Images tool will then populate your sheet with a list of the images contained within that folder, complete with their respective URLs.

Extracting the EXIF Data

Once you have your image URLs listed, it’s time to extract the EXIF data. Specify the column where you want the extracted metadata to appear, and let the tool work its magic. Depending on the number of images you’re processing, this step may take a few moments to complete.

The extracted EXIF data will provide you with a wealth of information about your photos, including details such as white balance, location (latitude and longitude), camera settings, and more. It’s important to note that the level of detail may vary depending on the source of your images. Photos taken with your smartphone or dedicated camera will typically contain more comprehensive metadata compared to stock images from repositories like Pexels.com.
